I have a Taylor trunk located battery and a 10 gallon fuel cell flush mounted. What color did the factory paint the panel that the tail lights mount to? Also mine has this caulk looking stuff smeared all over where the trunk and header panel join, is that factory or a futile redneck seal job?

I think the factory painted the tail panel the same as the rest of the trunk, I'm not sure, mine was redone before I redid it. The caulking smear job could well have been from the factory, mine has the same thing, in the trunk, and inside the car...

I believe I'm gonna flake all the caulk off and redo it neater, then use the Duplicolor speck coating on it. As far as the floor itself, it's gettin charcoal carpeting. Using durodine spraytak adhesive to hold it down with

I've already groung my trunk down with a wire brush, and side grinder. Painted with a thick rubberized under coating (technical term), probably be a good idea to carpet the trunk too, might cut down on some noise.

Bought the Duplicolor black / aqua splatter paint yesterday. Figured it'd go good with the blue downbars from the cage.

It's hard to believe that GM would let a smear job like that go out the door! I guess back then if you was fixin to buy a Camaro 1/2 the folks didn't even bother opening the trunk, I know i wouldn't have. :D

I got everything removed out, ground down, and the splatter paint is done. That stuff goes quick and thick!! I also got a fresh coat of paint on the downbars. All that's left is the latch assem and carpet and that project will be done.

Gonna post a few pics when done. I don't want to overrun the site with a ton of pics to keep from the costs to go up. Started steel wooling off black paint that covered everything like the wires, taglight assems, etc yesterday. I found a gm part # ribbon still around the harness where it plugs up under the drivers side trunk hinge. Trying my best to salvage it for the added coolness of it all.
